Arina Pozdnyak's profile

"Greener Grass" zine

A year ago during the pandemic, I moved from Russia to the United States. For several months It felt like I was in two places at the same time: physically — in California, mentally — in Russia. I was constantly comparing two realities. From Russia, living in the US seemed to be so perfect, so precious, and desired. Dream country for every second Russian citizen. However, immigration is hard. It doesn't matter how good or bad are conditions you are moving in. As soon as the location and cultural context are changed, it becomes clear what your identity consists of. But now you are detached from those things.

This project is a reflection of my adaptation to new life circumstances. It is about the difficulties of accepting reality as it is, about mind games and craving for people and things I love to be with me.
